Halftime - The research continues despite stormy sea The research already underway on the assembly line and the 22-member team of scientists has her hands full. In recent nomorerack days we have successfully worked on 12 stations in the western Laptev Sea and hundreds of jars filled with water and sediment samples. In addition, we use around the clock, a so-called Underway CTD. This newly developed nomorerack method high-resolution temperature and salinity measurements can be performed in the water column while driving. To previous nomorerack highlights of the anchoring of two Meeresobservatorien (VILKITSKY and TAYMYR) is in the northwestern nomorerack Laptev Sea in 326 and 58 meters water depth. A total of four Meeresobservatorien be anchored. Add up to 280 meters long measuring chains, many individual components which will record with high accuracy including the ice thickness, temperature and conductivity, the flow direction and speed and dernSchwebstoffgehalt hide.
Next year, during the expedition TRANSDRIFT XXII, the Meeresobservatorien to be recovered again and provide information about the variability of environmental conditions in this region. Right now, such measurements is of great importance, because climate change is already leaving its mark. We therefore very much regret that we have failed two days ago to recover the marine observatory OSL4. At the moment we are on the way to the third 24-hour station (1893) in the central Laptev Sea.
