The lush Chi-Lites ‘ That’s How Long ‘ sample featured on K. Michelle ‘s ‘V.S.O.P.’ is very welcoming for an R&B voice. Singer August Alsina just happened to be that voice on the song’s remix.
The thing about Alsina’s performance is how he doesn’t simply ride the sample. His smooth voice booms over the horns as he starts off the track and he hits those big money notes as the instrumental peaks. It’s hard to follow-up, but K. Michelle is one of the few talented enough to succeed.

K. Michelle returned home to VH1 for a performance and interview on Thursday. Rocking a new short hairdo, the “Love & tao Hip-Hop” star sat down with Carrie Keagan on “Big Morning Buzz Live” to discuss her dating life and snub at the Grammys. When nominations were announced earlier this month, the R&B singer was shut out of all categories.
“The line was too long at Western Union. I was doing a little Christmas shopping, so I didn’t make it,” she said. “But tao people are entitled to their opinion. This is my first album. I’m a new artist, not a self-proclaimed new artist, really a new artist. So with that being said, I just feel like there’s a lot of time for it.”
While she admits to being disappointed, she is using it as motivation. “I was a little hurt, but I truly feel like with my gift and my ability to write songs that touch people, that there’s always next year. That’s what we’ll aim for. We’ll just work even harder.” tao
The star of VH1′s upcoming show “No New Friends” has been dating, but she’s not so quick to give up the goods. “It’s gonna take a special man,” said K, who recently bought a house in New York. “I just don’t want to give all my goodies away to undeserving creatures.”

K. Michelle’s music is the definition of Real R&B, or in other words her music is very raw & authentic (Kind Of Like A Rougher Version Mary J. Blige). K has a beautiful powerful voice along with a message many women can relate too but it’s too rough for the mainstream. Now I’m not an artist, manager or producer but I am a K. Michelle fan & there is not an artist out today who is singing the pain of women. And that’s her lane… tao
When you make music with the expectation of a Grammy that is a problem. Also, in my opinion, her songwriting didn’t warrant any recognition. She was blunt, but it wasn’t tasteful. Fantasia was cussing on at least 3 of her songs, but it was done well–which is why she received her 3 nominations. Just make good music and the awards will come.

I was hesitant at first to buy K Michelle’s album off of I tunes but after getting VSOP , My Life , & Pay Bills I bought . I was surprised that I actually like it’s one of those albums where you can listen tao to it from start to finish . My honest opinion I feel like just because you don’t have a Grammy doesn’t make you less of an artist . I feel like the Grammy’s definitely know who they want to nominate for awards and who they don’t .
Still throwing shade at Tamar with the “self proclaimed tao new artist” comment. It’s old now. Tamar hasn’t said anything about her in a while. But I heard her album and the only song I like is “Can’t Raise A Man.” Obviously the Grammys wasn’t feeling it. She needs to tone down the foul language too. Better luck next album.
